About

My name is Hugo and I live in The Netherlands. This weblog is about IT security and security in general. My interest for security started when I was around 12 years old when our PC got infected with a computer virus. I wanted to know how we got infected, how the virus worked and what I could do to prevent it from happening again. I really liked the 'cat and mouse' game between virus and anti-virus software. When Windows 95 was released, writing a computer virus became really too easy. So from that time on, I focused more on secure programming and internet security.

Besides IT security, I'm also interested in the 'human factor' of security. I see a lot of things happening around me which are done for 'security' reasons. But if you take some time to look at what's really going on, you'll see that in many cases people have been led by emotion rather then logic. In many cases, people tend to overreact on the situation and the new rules have very little to do with security. Via this weblog, I hope to give the reader a more realistic look on security.
